Catherine's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Honours Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
